Dharmawangsa Residence: A Masterpiece of Tropical Luxury

Genius Loci Pte's Award-Winning Design Combines Luxury and Sustainability

Genius Loci Pte's design for the Dharmawangsa Residence was inspired by the need to create a luxurious living space that also addresses Jakarta's flood-prone nature and tropical weather. The entire livable space, including the lap pool, was elevated by one level to mitigate flood risks. To counter the humid conditions, the design promotes cross ventilation, allowing air to circulate freely throughout the house. The sun’s movement pattern was studied over an entire year to design open areas that provide natural, cool shelter over the swimming pool and outdoor communal area.

The construction of the Dharmawangsa Residence was a feat of engineering and craftsmanship. The design features large overhangs and air pockets to facilitate cross ventilation. The sliding glass doors and marble slabs for all areas were handpicked and meticulously installed. The design team, led by Creative Director Mr. Alex Bayusaputro, Architect in charge Ms. Yuyun Soewahjo, and Designer in charge Ms. Rivia Meidiana, worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail was executed to perfection.

The Dharmawangsa Residence was designed to offer a seamless flow from public to private zones, with spaces that can be hidden away when needed. The design also incorporates the surrounding landscape into the interior spaces, allowing the owners and guests to immerse themselves in nature. This residential design is not only a luxurious living space but also a testament to the power of innovative architecture to elevate lifestyle while respecting nature.

The Dharmawangsa Residence project started in April 2014 and was completed in March 2016. Despite the compact nature of the plot and the challenges posed by privacy, climate, and weather conditions, the design team was able to create a spectacular living space that offers a unique experience in every corner. The design of the roof keeps most of the glass facade of the house under the shade, creating a more efficient cooling system further enhanced by cross ventilation.

The Dharmawangsa Residence is a testament to Genius Loci Pte's commitment to creating designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally conscious. This commitment was recognized when the design was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. The award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and the Dharmawangsa Residence certainly fits the bill.
